65 million girls are out of school globally and that story is no different in Nicaragua. We see it over and over, but girls living in poverty are more likely to get pregnant and drop out of school before they are even 15 years old.
At La Chureca (the city dump where we operate) even if the girls don’t get pregnant many have to drop out of school to help care for their siblings. An educated mother is more than twice as likely to send her children to school. And a girl with just an extra year of education can earn 20% more as an adult. When these girls drop out of school it only perpetuates the cycle of poverty.
We want to help these girls to continue their education. We are building towards a better future by building a FREE daycare in La Chureca. A free daycare will allow the moms and sisters to continue going to school and give them a chance to build a better life. We need to raise $50,000 to build the daycare and pay for part of it’s operation.
Statistics show that when women earn an income, they reinvest 90% off their income in their families and communities.
This will be a huge project but make a big impact. Child deaths would be cut in half if all women had a secondary education, saving 3 million lives. And all maternal deaths would be reduced by two-thirds if each mother completed primary education.
